Outdoor Recreation: Let’s Get Outside!
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation continues to send us updates regarding COVID-19 and its effects on outdoor recreation. We at Plattsburgh RV Store and the NYSDEC agree that the outdoors has some wonderful health benefits, both physically and mentally, that could benefit you in a time like this. The NYSDEC shares, “During the current COVID-19 public health crisis, getting outdoors and connecting with nature is a way to help maintain our mental and physical health. Scientific studies show that time outside in nature, especially among trees, significantly reduces stress and anxiety, lowers blood pressure, improves mood, energy and sleep, and boosts the immune system.”. Although this pandemic may bring some uncertainty, we can be certain that getting outdoors can be nothing but beneficial to our mental and physical health as long as we take precautions.
“The DEC encourages New Yorkers to recreate locally. Also, please continue to follow the CDC/NYSDOH’s guidelines for preventing the spread of colds, flu and COVID-19 by choosing trails close to home, avoiding potentially busy trailheads, keeping at least six feet of distance between you and others, avoiding direct contact with other people, and staying home if you are showing or feeling any sign of symptoms.
Seek out less used trails and waters. If you arrive and find a trailhead is crowded, seek out another place to recreate. Adirondackers seeking to enjoy the outdoors during the current COVID-19 public health crisis should be aware of current conditions.
